Such centers are usually located in offshore locations and offer an added advantage of a pool of skilled workforce available at a much economical price. This article attempts to investigate the important role that GCCs play in helping organization gain a competitive edge in technology, particularly in AI and ML.

Thanks to the multiples waves of deployment to GCCs of applications and business processes, GCCs have come a long way since the initial days. Initially GCCs were established to access developing countries’ lower cost labor for the purpose of performing back-office chores, mostly repetitive and low level of activities, which reduced the cost of doing business for organizations. Over time, this led GCCs to leverage tools such as Six Sigma and Lean to improve efficiencies and subsequently undertake larger process re-engineering projects. This phase was crucial for organizations looking to derive more value from their GCCs, as it opened doors to innovative solutions and strategic insights and today’s GCCs that are actively engaged in technology leadership and innovation – especially in AI and ML.
