Such centers are usually located in offshore locations and offer an added advantage of a pool of skilled workforce available at a much economical price. This article attempts to investigate the important role that GCCs play in helping organization gain a competitive edge in technology, particularly in AI and ML.

The Dawn of the GCCs

Thanks to the multiples waves of deployment to GCCs of applications and business processes, GCCs have come a long way since the initial days. Initially GCCs were established to access developing countries’ lower cost labor for the purpose of performing back-office chores, mostly repetitive and low level of activities, which reduced the cost of doing business for organizations. Over time, this led GCCs to leverage tools such as Six Sigma and Lean to improve efficiencies and subsequently undertake larger process re-engineering projects. With a stronger emphasis on process optimization, GCCs gradually transitioned towards more complex, value-added tasks. They began taking on responsibilities related to advanced analytics, product development, and business strategy. This phase was crucial for organizations looking to derive more value from their GCCs, as it opened doors to innovative solutions and strategic insights and today’s GCCs that are actively engaged in technology leadership and innovation – especially in AI and ML.

Underneath all the hype, AI and ML offer significant potential for innovation and efficiency improvements. GCCs play a crucial role in harnessing these technologies to create a sustainable competitive edge. Here’s how:
